CASH-IN-TRANSIT DRIVE FOR BANK MACHINE

Bank Machine, the UK division of Cardtronics, the world’s largest ATM company, today announces a new £3million investment with the launch of its own Cash-in-Transit (CiT) operation. This operation will be expanded to cover several thousand ATM sites nationwide over the next 3 years.

This important business development cements Bank Machine’s role as a key supplier at the heart of the financial sector in the UK and provides stability in a narrowing CiT market following the mergers of leading CiT operators in the last 12 months, which has reduced choice and service standards whilst increasing costs.

This announcement comes at a time when consumers are increasingly using cash to keep tighter controls on what they are spending, with £4.8bn* more withdrawn from cash machines in the UK in September compared to March.

Ron Delnevo, Managing Director of Bank Machine, says: "Cash circulation is obviously vital to our business and to the whole country. Cash is the very lifeblood of the UK economy. 60% of purchases made in the UK in 2007 were made using cash and cash machines are forecast to supply over 85% of cash to UK consumers within the next 5 years. With our new service, we can guarantee a more efficient service for our customers."

The initial roll out to 300 sites in London has already started via a fleet of purpose built security vehicles. The vans – Bank Machine's "Green Team" – will transport cash each week to Bank Machine's growing network of ATMs. When the service is expanded nationally, it is predicted that Green Team will be responsible for the secure transportation of a significant percentage of the total volume of bank notes delivered to ATMs in the UK.

By taking the cash-in-transit service in-house, Bank Machine will be making efficiency savings, whilst, even more importantly, offering a more flexible and responsive service to their customers.

Delnevo concludes: "As the UKs leading ATM operator, it is only right that Bank Machine should be offering a fully comprehensive service from site selection to installation, maintenance and now cash delivery and replenishment. Bank Machine’s customers will be the main beneficiaries of our new vertically integrated service, as we can tailor our cash delivery service to their needs. Ultimately, of course, we may offer this service to third parties as others seek to benefit from Bank Machine's undisputed position as the most efficient ATM operator in the UK.

"We will continue to work with other CiT operators who can meet our exacting standards. Those that can’t will be dropped from our roster."

Notes to Editors:

• In 2007, the Office of Fair trading separately investigated two incidences of consolidation in the CiT market in the UK, following concerns expressed by customers that any narrowing of the marketplace would push up prices. See Loomis here and G4S here.

• Bank Machine created the UK's independent ATM market ten years ago and now has over 2,500 cash machines in locations including cinemas, garage forecourts and retail outlets - ranging from Selfridges to convenience stores.

• It began by installing pay-to-use cash machines in convenient locations, but has since been building a free-to-use network - with over 500 free-to-use ATMs installed in, for example, NHS hospitals, military bases, Universities and low income areas.

• Based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, Bank Machine (a division of Cardtronics Inc.) now has nearly 100 staff.
